It’s far too easy to lose sight of your goals when shit blows up in your face. But without those moment how do you ever move forward and learn. If you go through an experience with zero pushback or negativity, what’s really going on? Somewhere along the line something has to go wrong. Everything from birth to where you stand right now is testament to this and living proof.

When you learned to ride a bicycle, did it go perfectly? Where you able to master it without a scrape on your knee?

When you first approached a love interest, did the conversation go as smoothly as it did in your head?

How you react to these situations define you and mould your future resistance to the petty bullshit. If you run and leave unfinished business, it leaves a sour taste. If you face up and approach head on, people eventually respect.

Respect is not the result of a title – it should be the other way around but these days it’s far too easy to label ourselves for whatever we want to portray ourselves as. Every self-titled modern day internet marketer comes to mind especially.

Shit. I’ve been shot down a hundred times and it still happens. When you hit a thousand, that’s when the real magic happens. The numbers stack in your favour.

Every now and again I have a massive “Well, that didn’t go to plan.” moment and I ask my brain, “Yo! Wha’da f*ck?” and the response I get is “Maybe try something else, I don’t know.” I’m just left here standing like, I don’t know, now what.

There’s a lesson in all this, every time. Finding that lesson is a little tough at times but, we’ll get there.

This is a big one to catch you out when trying to diet, be it on the job, out with family or friends, away from home, away from your kitchen. You decide to buy a little snack and don’t always realise that the nutritional value of convenient snacks are sh*te in comparison to a proper prepared meal.

Once so far this I’d almost been caught out by not taking lunch with me but, I’d been planning that night’s dinner for a good 2 or 3 days before. The one good, big and healthy meal I didn’t snap a pic of. Damn.

Not all things in life are this easy.

However, there are, I’m sure, methods for turning off certain things in life – cravings, feelings, memories, pain, etc. through meditation.

I promised myself I’d start spending a little more time meditating – not guided, just concentrating focus – to ease the millions of thoughts that pace through my head each and are forgotten quicker than I can write them down.

Although, a large chunk of my memory isn’t all that bad. It serves me very well, for useful and helpful things. Other parts serve me too well, or not well, at all by keeping memories too vivid at the forefront.

Excuse the pinkish hue, I know it’s not my norm but a little variety goes a long way.

Anyway, I’ve dieted a lot – like, a lot! And every diet I’ve ever tried, successful or not have had one thing in common: if you don’t keep busy, you will eat.

It’s very tough sitting still for 3 hours, clock watching, until you can break your fast and devour a massive steak and cheese platter (yummy!) – however – it’s far easier letting time fly by while you are busy and fully engaged with an activity.

Be it walking, playing a game – board or digital – learning to program, designing some Christmas cards, fixing your car, anything at all to keep your kind off food. That way you’ll find the pounds dropping off a lot quicker than any diet before.

Actually, the pounds don’t drop quicker, they simply drop at the rate you expect them to as you’re not snacking, provided you are keeping busy, that is.

Most evenings (those are the toughest, after dinner, watching TV…) I keep busy with gaming, programming and working. The evenings are generally a great time to get additional work done. Gaming is good as it can be quite mesmerising and hypnotic at times. I’ve often lost almost entire days to gaming.

So whatever your fancy, or not if you’re trying something new, just keep busy if you’re serious about losing weight. In the long run it will incur far less disappointment. .

Think carefully about what this means. @sadhguru is a wise man and can open your mind to thoughts you’ve never even considered. You might mistake pain for weakness, being the first to turn your nose up at doing something because it will hurt. This is completely normal.

Suffering, be it mentally or physically is not the same. Yes, there may be pain, but it’s not the same pain. It’s not the kind of message your body gets in a fight or flight situation. It slowly drains you. It can drain others around you and similarly, you can be drained by others, too.

I think it’s important to identify suffering early on, identifying the object of your suffering and dealing with it directly. It’s not easy and you may piss a few people off.

The big question is, do you endure a short period of hatred and bad feelings in return for possibly much more positive actions going forward or do you endure a life long suffering?

Well, there we have it… a smidge under 15lbs down after the first week of my 40lb challenge. That’s a whole stone lost! This morning I figured I’d celebrate with a 45 minute session on the exercise bike. And a decent #keto lunch: eggs, beef, cheese, tomato and onion… wish I’d taken a picture of it, it looked and tasted way more glorious than it sounds. Gotta keep it going now. 3 weeks and 25lbs to go! .
